Conversion of elastic energy to thermal energy

Simulation: s-7-heat.txt

The simulation shows a 3-dimensional arrangement of particles elasticly connected to next neighbours.

At start all particles are at rest and all springs are at their rest lenght and therefore without any tention. In classical terms this represents a body at a temperature of zero degree Kelvin.
After moving an easily accessible particle at the edge (select a particle with the left mouse button and move the mouse while holding down the Ctrl key) and after starting the simulation it is shown how the localized elastic stress state is converted to a statistically disordered vibration of all interacting particles and therefore to an increase in temperature.
